Heavyweight Rowing 20th at Head of the Charles


CAMBRIDGE - On a gorgeous day for rowing at the 49th Head of the Charles Regatta, Penn's heavyweight rowing program rowed in the Championship Eights and Championship Fours, posting solid results in its second outing of the 2013 fall slate.

Penn's A boat claimed 20th overall out of 32 entries in the Championship Eights, crossing in 15:25.607. That time was good for 13th among U.S. collegiate crews. The Quakers were mired in a battle with Northeastern's B boat, finishing 0.886 behind the Huskies. OTC Amsterdam was the top overall finisher in 14:41.171, Harvard was the first collegiate crew to cross the line, doing so in 4:43.027. Penn's B boat was 27th in a time of 5:59.058 -- 1.482 ahead of Harvard's C crew.

In the Championship Fours, the Quakers were 19th overall, and 12th out of 13 American collegiate crews. The Red and Blue crossed the finish line in a time of 18:11.261. The Camp Randall Rowing Club was first in 16:35.505 among all entries, Stanford was the first collegiate crew to cross in 16:45.385.

The Quakers are back on the water Oct. 27 at the Princeton Chase.
