Heavyweight Rowing Begins Fall Races in Poughkeepsie

PHILADELPHIA - The men's heavyweight rowing team is back in the water this weekend, opening the 2010-11 season at the Poughkeepsie Regatta hosted by Marist College.

Penn is slated to compete with Marist, Cornell and Army in the event. Boats will launch at Longview Park on the Hudson River. No truth to the rumor that the heavies made the trip up to new York via waterways after the terrential rain deluged upon the Philadelphia region the last two days.

Nicholas B. Paumgarten Head Coach of Men's Heavyweight Rowing Greg Myhr is in his second season at the helm of the Quakers and as a roster featuring 60 members to choose from. A group of 10 seniors provides veteran leadership for the Quakers, led by captain Piervincenzo Russo and classmate Matthew Van Voorhis. Halley Sloane is a senior coxswain who is quite comfortable leading a crew.

This Saturday, Penn will compete in the open men's race at the Poughkeepsie Regatta. First crews launch at 8:30 a.m.
