PHILADELPHIA – After a weekend trip across the country to San Diego which saw Penn finish third in the Varsity Eight, the No. 13 Quakers return to traditional Cup racing this weekend with the Childs Cup on the line with No. 5 Princeton and No. 15 Columbia.

Racing will take place at Overpeck Park in Ridgefield Park, N.J. on Saturday with the first race set to begin at 9 a.m.

The Quakers and Tigers have had the better of results in the Childs Cup over the years, each crew winning 45 races to 12 wins for Columbia. For Princeton, much of its success has come in the last 19 years, with wins in 18 of the last 19 installments. Columbia has the lone win over the Tigers in that span, scoring a win in 2009 on Lake Carnegie. Penn will be looking for its first win since 1993, which was the final in a five-year winning streak for the Red and Blue.

Last year, Penn was second to the Tigers on Lake Carnegie, holding off Columbia by 1.9 seconds in a tight race for the runner-up spot. In the 19 years since Penn has claimed the Childs Cup, it has been runner-up 14 times.

Saturday will be the first three-way Cup race of the spring season for the Red and Blue, who enter with a 2-1 record in dual races this season. In Cup races, the Quakers are 1-1 with a win over George Washington in the McCausland Cup.
