Heavyweight Rowing Drops Madeira Bowl to Cornell

ITHACA – Cornell swept all three races in the Madeira Bowl on Sunday morning on the Cayuga Lake inlet to claim the cup over the Quakers.

The day opened with the freshmen 8 race and the Big Red took that race by 6.8 seconds with a time of 6:26.6 to the Quakers’ 6:33.4.

Cornell continued its success with a win in the varsity 8 race. The Big Red finished in a time of 6:11.8 – more than 16 seconds ahead of Penn which finished in 6:27.3. That win clinched the win for Cornell.

The final race of the day was the varsity 4 race which saw Cornell enter an ‘A’ and a ‘B’ boat. It was the ‘B’ boat that won the race in a time of 7:11.2. The Big Red’s ‘A’ boat was 2.7 seconds behind in a time of 7:13.9. Penn’s boat finished in a time of 7:49.9.

The Quakers will finish up their 2008 campaign at the IRA Regatta at Camden, N.J. on June 5.
