Heavyweight Rowing Edged in Childs Cup


Penn 's 16th-ranked heavyweight rowing team was unable to keep pace two top-ten teams on Saturday in the Childs Cup, finishing third behind No. 4 Princeton and No. 10 Columbia in the 101st edition of the Childs Cup.

The Tigers crossed the 2000m course first in a time of 5:28.0 with Columbia second in 5:31.0. Penn's varsity eight finished in 5:39.6 on a day featuring a variable light tail wind.

The Tigers are now even in the Childs Cup with the Quakers, each holding 44 wins in the race.

In the second varsity eight, Penn was 2.9 seconds behind the Tigers, crossing in 5:41.4 to Princeton's 5:38.5. Columbia was third in 5:53.8.

In the third varsity, Princeton won in 5:47.9 over Penn's 5:56.4.

Penn's frosh boat was third in eights in 5:48.0. Princeton claimed that race in a time of 5:34.2. Columbia was second in 5:39.6. Penn's second novice crew was fourth.
