PRINCETON --The No. 8 University of Pennsylvania heavyweight rowing team was second in the Childs Cup on Lake Carnegie, falling to No. 3 Princeton the Tigers' home water.
The Quakers were clearly the second-best crew in the race, 5.7 seconds ahead of No. 18 Columbia, but 6.7 seconds away from the Tigers who crossed the finish line first in 6:03.8.
The Red and Blue won two of the five races contested, picking up wins in the 4V and 5V. The Fourth Varsity defeated Princeton by 3.9 seconds and Columbia by 7.3. In the Fifth Varsity, the Quakers were best by 2.5 seconds over Princeton.
The Quakers are back on the water April 18 when they row for the Blackwell Cup against Yale and Columbia in Overpeck, N.J.
