CAMDEN, N.J. The IRA Regatta got underway early Thursday morning on the Cooper River. The University of Pennsylvania men’s heavyweight rowing team raced five boats, highlighted by the second varsity 8 which won its afternoon repechage.
The men’s pair finished sixth in their morning heat that went off around 7:30 a.m. They clocked in at 7:42.655. The pair will race in Repechage 2, Friday morning at 7:36 a.m. against Princeton, Cornell, USC and Navy.
The varsity 8 came in fourth in their heat at 5:54.255. In their evening repechage,Penn finished third at 5:48.462. The Quakers finished just behind second-place Viriginia by three seconds. The varsity 8 will race in Semifinal 4 Friday at 12:36 p.m. against Dartmouth, Marist, Georgetown, Navy and George Washington.
Penn’s second varsity 8 finished in fourth at 6:05.383.In their afternoon repechage, theQuakers were victorious, edging Michigan by eight seconds at 5:53.410. Penn will race in either Semifinal 1at 1 p.m. or Semifinal2 at 1:12 p.m. Friday afternoon.
The Quakers'freshman 4 placed fifth in the morning at 6:58.860.Inthe afternoon, Penn finished fourth in Repechage 2, coming in at 7:02.816. They will race Friday morning at 9:24 a.m. in Semifinal 4 against Dartmouth, Minnesota, Georgetown and UCLA.
Penn finished fourth in theopen 4, coming in at 7:09.232.They will race Friday morning at 8 a.m. against Boston University, Washington, Wisconsin's B crew and George Washington.
