PHILADELPHIA – No. 13 Penn ends its heavyweight rowing regular season on Friday with the 57th Madeira Cup against Cornell. The Quakers have a 35-21 lead all-time in the series, but are looking for their first win in the Madeira Cup since 2007.

First held in 1956, the Madeira Cup is raced in honor of Crawford Madeira, a long-time patron and supporter of Penn Rowing. The Quakers are 7-5 all-time in Madeira Cup races held on the Schuylkill River.

Last year, Cornell swept all five races, winning the Madeira Cup with a 2.6-second win in the varsity eight.

At EARC Sprints last weekend, No. 11 Cornell was in the Petite Final with the Quakers, finishing second in the race in a time of 6:10.303. The Quakers were fourth in 6:19.027.
