Heavyweight Rowing Opens Fall in Navy Day Regatta

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania rowing teams are ready to get the fall portion of their 2014-15 seasons started, and that will happen on Saturday when they participate in the annual Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River.

The three-mile head race will begin at 8:15 a.m. with the men's 2- and continue throughout the day until the Mixed Masters 8+ at approximately 4:30 p.m. All three Penn rowing programs will compete in the event, rowing throughout the day in the collegiate championships.

Last year, the heavyweights won the collegiate Varsity 8, besting Navy by over three seconds with a winning time of 11:40.37. Penn also had a second boat finish fifth in the Varsity 8.

In the 4+, Penn was runner up, finishing only behind the Midshipmen with a time of 12:44.31. Penn’s heavyweights also scored a third-place finish in the Frosh 8.

This year, Penn is scheduled to enter 14 boats over the Varsity 8, JV 8, Frosh 8, Varsity 4+ and Frosh 4+ races. Full boatings are attached as a PDF.

9:08 a.m. – Varsity 4+

10:12 a.m. – Frosh 8
10:36 a.m. – JV 8
12:40 p.m. – Varsity 8
1:12 p.m. – Frosh 4+
