Heavyweight Rowing Second in Adams Cup

Row2K Results

CAMBRIDGE – On a perfect day for racing on the Charles River – flat water and minimal winds awaiting the crews – No. 15 Penn overcame a slow start to rally past No. 9 Navy for a second place finish in the Adams Cup. No. 2 Harvard was the winner, claiming its 13th consecutive Adams Cup – and 51st overall – by 8.2 seconds.

The Quakers were a seat or two down early, but quickly caught up to the Midshipmen. While Harvard was pulling away, Penn was trying to find the edge over the Middies, eventually pulling away in the final meters to a five-seat advantage to take the line 1.7 seconds before Navy.

The freshmen had their first true test of the season against a full field of frosh boats, and acclimated themselves well. The early leaders in the race, the Quakers found themselves in a battle with the Crimson as both boats rowed away from Navy. Harvard eventually wrestled control of the race to win by 2.9 seconds, but the Quakers were second by open water with a 9.8 lead on Navy.

Penn is off until May 19 when the Red and Blue head to Worcester for EARC Sprints.
