Heavyweight Rowing Ships Up to Head of the Charles

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania’s men’s heavyweight rowing team heads to Boston this weekend to compete in the 50th Head of the Charles Regatta on the Charles River.

The Quakers, coming off a weekend where they claimed victory in four of five races on home waters of the Schuylkill River in the Navy Day Regatta, will send their Varsity Eight to Head of the Charles with entry in the Championship Eight race. That race starts at 2:03 p.m. on October 19.

The V8 was one of the four winners last weekend, actually ending up in a tie with Navy for the win in the Varsity Eight race – also competed in head racing conditions.

Last year, Penn’s varsity crew was 20th out of 32 crews in the Championship Eight at HOTC, finishing 13th overall among U.S. collegiate boats.
