Heavyweight Rowing Wraps Up Day Two at IRA Regatta

CAMDEN, N.J. – Day two at the IRA Regatta saw Penn’s second varsity 8 qualify for the Petite Final. The Quakers’ varsity 8 and open 4both qualified for 3rd Level Finals on Saturday.

The second varsity 8 secured a shot at the Grand Final by winning their repechage Thursday afternoon. On Friday, the Red and Blue finished sixth in their semifinal at 5:59.133. They will race in the Petite Final Saturday at 11:48 a.m. against Northeastern, Yale's A and B crews, Syracuse and Harvard's B crew.

The Quakers’ varsity 8 took third-place in their Friday semifinal. They clocked in at 5:47.347, just two seconds behind Georgetown. Penn will race in the 3rd Level Final against Syracuse, Georgetown, Virginia, Navy and Boston University Saturday at 12:36 p.m.

Penn’s open 4 crew took fourth-place at 7:04.053, edging Boston University by three seconds in their repechage. That puts the Red and Blue in the 3rd Level Final, Saturday at7:46 a.m.

The freshman 4 placed fifth in the semifinals, coming in at 7:05.731. Penn finished just seconds behind Dartmouth, who came in at 7:05.660. However, the Quakers would have had to finish third to advance to a final on Saturday.

The men’s pair did not race Friday morning due to an injury.
