PHILADELPHIA - It was a busy weekend for the University of Pennsylvania men's heavyweight rowing team on the Charles River as they went up against some of the top teams in the nation, placing third in the Adams Cup Saturday and second for the Burk Cup Sunday.

On Saturday, No. 4 Harvard won the Adams Cup, defeating No. 16 Navy and No. 18 Penn with a time of 5:57.25. Facing a crosswind and a small chop on the Charles River, the Midshipmen were about a length behind the Crimson at 5:59.23, while Penn was third at 6:09.51. Against two ranked teams on Saturday, the Quakers also finished third in the remaining four races.

On Sunday, the Burk Cup stayed in Boston for the ninth-straight year with No. 7 Northeastern edging the Quakers. Both teams fought a strong headwind with Northeastern coming across the finish line at 6:28.4. The Quakers were just a few seats behind with their time of 6:30.3.

Also on Sunday, Penn's novice 8 claimed victory over Northeastern in Penn's only win of the day. The freshmen won handily, leaving a lot of open water between the two boats. The Red and Blue stopped the clock at 6:37.8 and Northeastern came in about 10 seconds later.

The second freshmen boat did not fair as well. Northeastern won with a time of 7:45.8, while the Quakers finished in 7:55.9. Penn had two boats in the second varsity race. Northeastern won in 6:41.2. The Red and Blue's second varsity was 10 seconds behind, while the third varsity boat finished in 7:05.9.

This weekend served as the final tune-up for the Penn heavyweights as their next competition is the Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 16 in Worcester, Mass.
