PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania men’s heavyweight rowing team returns to action on Saturday, April 30th to compete for the Madeira Cup against Cornell with Dartmouth joining as a guest in Ithaca, N.Y. on the Cayuga Lake Inlet. The regatta marks the regular season finale for the Quakers prior to the Eastern Sprints and IRA for postseason competition.
Cornell has won the last eight Madeira Cup races with Penn’s last win coming in 2007 on the Schuylkill. All-time in the Madeira Cup, Penn owns a 35-24 edge dating back to the first installment in 1956.
The 13th-ranked Quakers have faced some of the toughest competition in the nation in consecutive weekends including Princeton, Columbia, Yale, Harvard and Navy, respectively. Cornell comes into the cup race ranked No. 9 in the US Collegiate Rowing Polls while Dartmouth is one spot behind in 10th as of April 21st.
