Heavyweights Second to No. 1 Yale in Blackwell Cup

PHILADELPHIA --The final home regatta of 2016 for the University of Pennsylvania heavyweight rowing team saw the No. 12 Quakers take second to No. 1 Yale while finishing ahead of No. 18 Columbia.

The Red and Blue were second for the eighth time in the last 14 Blackwell Cup races. Yale crossed the line first in 5:26.9 in the Varsity Eight, while Penn was second in 5:43.4 and the Lions were third in 5:45.1.

The Second Varsity was a close race, but again it was Yale which took first. The Bulldogs hit the stripe first in 5:36.0 while Penn was a close second in 5:37.9. Columbia was well back for third, needing 5:44.2 to finish.

The Quakers are on the Charles River next weekend, rowing against Harvard and Navy for the Adams Cup.
