Heavyweights Set to Battle No. 2 Harvard, No. 8 Navy for Adams Cup

Penn Heavyweight Rowing on Twitter

Saturday's Adams Cup will be the 80th edition of the race between Penn, Harvard, and Navy, with Penn looking to claim its 17th in the series. Harvard holds the all-time lead in the Adams Cup with 49 wins and Navy has 14 victories. The Crimson have claimed 11 in a row, including a win by 0.4 seconds over Navy on the Schuylkill in 2011. The start is an early one for the squad, with the first race - the varsity eight with the Adams Cup at stake - beginning at 6:45 a.m.

First contested in 1928, the race between Penn, Harvard and Navy was named the Adams Cup in 1933 to honor Charles Francis Adams, a Harvard graduate who served as Secretary of the Navy. No. 16 Penn will compete against a pair of top-ten teams this weekend as Harvard enters as the No. 2-ranked crew in the country and Navy is No. 8.

The schedule of races on Saturday is as follows:
6:45 a.m. - First Varsity
7:15 a.m. - Second Varsity
7:45 a.m. - Frosh Eights
8:45 a.m. - 2F/3V Eights
