PHILADELPHIA – With a win in the Navy Day Regatta in its back pocket, Penn’s heavyweight rowing teams heads to one of the world’s most famous waterways on Sunday for the 49th Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston.

In 2012, the Quakers placed 12th out of 28 crews at the Head of the Charles – an improvement of 11 spots from the year prior. It was Penn’s best result at the Regatta since a 16th-place row in 2005. The Red and Blue navigated the course in a time of 15:06.60, just 0.26 seconds behind 11th-place Wisconsin and four seconds away from a top-ten finish.

Last weekend on home waters in Philly, the Quakers were top crew among 31 boats entered in the annual Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River. Penn’s winning time was 11:40.37 – three seconds ahead of second-place Navy.
