PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League and Philadelphia Big 5have announcedtheir first weekly award winners for the 2014-15 men's basketball season, and Penn was represented on both lists. Junior guard Tony Hicks was named BIg 5 Player of the Week, while freshman guard Antonio Woods was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Hicks scored 31 points in Penn's 77-75 overtime loss to Delaware State on Saturday, two shy of his career high. It was HIcks' 37th double-figure scoring game at Penn, and his second with more than 30 points. Hicks also had five rebounds and three assists for the Quakers.
Woods,meanwhile,came off the bench in Saturday's season opener against Delaware State and scored 11 points, the only other player besides Hicks to reach double figures. Eight of those points came in the first half, and he also knocked down a trey in the second half. Woods added four rebounds and two assists in his 36 minutes of action.
The Ivy League named Cornell's Shonn Miller as its Player of the Week.
Penn is at home twice this week, starting with Rider on Tuesday and continuing with Lafayette on Saturday. Both games will tip off at 7 p.m. in The Palestra.
