AMHERST, Mass. - Senior captain Jacob Himmelrich played his final match for the Red and Blue in the final of the Molloy Division, but fell to SimbaMuhwatiof Trinity, 3-1 (4-9, 9-5, 9-7, 9-3) as the Penn men's and women's squash players wrapped up the season at the College Squash Association Individual Championships in Amherst. Himmelrich wrapped up an outstanding career that saw him play some memorablematches in the final half of the 2006 season.
In women's action, Caitlin Russell won the second-tier Holleran Division and Radhika Ahluwalia ended her season with a win in the Ramsay Division consolation final.
Russell, who was seeded second in the Holleran Division, overcame the fatigue of a pair of 3-2 wins yesterday to cruise past top seed CarlyGrabowskiof Princeton, 3-0 (9-1, 9-2, 9-3) and end her season with a victory.
Ahluwalia, meanwhile, overcame a tough challenge from Anna Detter of Trinity, but won, 3-2 (9-6, 1-9, 9-6, 6-9, 9-3) in a 45-minute marathon in the consolation final of the Ramsay Division.
The results of the CSA Individual Championships, along with season results,help determine All-America status. Several Quakers, including Gilly Lane, Lee Rosen, and Ahluwalia will be in contention for first- and second-team distinctions after their performances this weekend.
