Hoover, Mata to Play for U.S. Indoor National Team

PHILADELPHIA – Two University of Pennsylvania field hockey freshmen will be traveling to Toronto, Canada this weekend as a part of the U.S. Women’s National Indoor Team. Forward Alexa Hoover, and goalkeeper Liz Mata will participate for the women’s national team in the three day ‘4 Nations Canada Indoor Invitational’ taking place Dec. 5-7.

Earlier this fall, Hoover was named Ivy League Rookie of the Year, while earning First-team All-Ivy honors, after scoring a league-leading 14 goals and tallying three assists. She was also named Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association second-team All-Region for the Mid-Atlantic region. Hoover was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week four times throughout the course of the season, becoming just the fourth player in Ivy League history to accomplish the feat in one season, and the first Penn player to do so.

Appearing in one game this season, Mata served as the Quakers goalkeeper against Monmouth, making three saves.
