PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League has announced its first weekly awards of the 2015 season, and University of Pennsylvania sophomore Alexa Hoover has been named co-Ivy League Player of the Week along with Princeton goalie Anya Gersoff.
Hoover earned the award after leading the Quakers attack during a 1-1 weekend in Virginia. She scored all three Penn goals in Friday's back-and-fourth, 4-3 loss at Liberty; it was Hoover's second collegiate hat trick, the other coming in last year's season opener. On Sunday, Hoover had two goals and an assist as the Red and Blue rolled at Longwood, 5-2.
Hoover was last year's Ivy League Rookie of the Year after she finished with an Ivy-leading 14 goals.
Penn is in action twice this weekend; the Quakers host Saint Joseph's on Friday at 4 p.m. in their home opener, then travel to Temple on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start.
