2011 USILA Division I-II North/South Rosters (PDF)
PHILADELPHIA -The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) has named its senior rosters for the 2011 North/South All-Star Games, and Penn will have two representatives in the Division I-II game on Friday, May 27. Senior defenseman Brett Hughes and senior attackman Corey Winkoff will represent the Quakers, joining a long list of former Penn players who have participated in the all-star game that serves as the kickoff to college lacrosse's championship weekend.
This year's games will take place at Goucher College in Towson, Md. The Division III North/South Game will face off at 3 p.m., followed by the Division I-II North/South Game at 5:30 p.m.
Hughes, a four-year starter on defense, was always matched up with the opposing team's top offensive player this season, and he finished the 2011 campaign with 18 caused turnovers and 21 ground balls. He was part of a defense that constructed an 8.15 goals-against average, good for 14th in the country. At the end of the season, he was voted first-team All-Ivy by the coaches, Penn's first first-teamer since 2008.
Winkoff, meanwhile, finished the 2011 season among the national leaders in assists (27) and also led Penn with 35 points. The Quakers' leading playmaker each of his four years on campus, Winkoff finished his career with 95 assists, good for second all-time at Penn and fifth among all active Division I players nationally. Winkoff had the Red and Blue's only six-point game (at Villanova) and five-point game (Yale) in 2011, as well as four-point outings at Cornell and against Dartmouth. He was one of four Penn players to receive second-team All-Ivy recognition from the coaches.
Led by Hughes and Winkoff, among others, Penn finished the 2011 season with an 8-7 overall record, placed second in the Ivy League with a 4-2 mark -- its best finish in Ivy play since 1989 -- and made its first NCAA Championship appearance since 2006 before losing to Notre Dame 13-6 in the first round.
