Philadelphia Sophomores J.T. Hutchinson and Peter Stine were named the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively after outstanding performances against Cornell on Sept. 17 in the season opener.
“Both Peter and J.T. are excellent student-athletes and it was a big surprise for an opening game to see the kind of results that came from their athleticism,” Head Coach Bill Wagner said. “I’m very happy with their performance and we are looking to forward to continuing to improve our scoring punch. Both are very humble and no doubt credit the offensive line with having an outstanding first game.”
Hutchinson, a tailback making his first career start, scored four touchdowns and rushed for 113 yards on 15 carries and scored twice in each half to lift the Quakers to a 35-13 victory over Cornell. He scored two touchdowns in the second quarter, including a 54-yard run to give the Red and Blue a 14-7 lead heading into halftime. He crossed the line twice in the third quarter as well. For his efforts he was also named Penn’s Co-Athlete of the Week.
Stine, in his first game with the Quakers, went a perfect 5-5 in point-after attempts.
Penn has a bye this week but resumes play on Oct. 1 when it travels to Princeton.
