Irwin Resigns as Head Coach of Men's Lightweight Rowing

PHILADELPHIA – Penn Men’s Lightweight Rowing Head Coach Mike Irwin has announced that he will be leaving the position effective June 30.

“The opportunity to start new careers close to family was something that my wife, Dana, and I could not pass up,” Irwin said. “I cannot thank everyone enough for their support and guidance during my seven years in Philadelphia. It has been a privilege to represent the Quakers, and I will miss being a regular part of the Penn community.”

Irwin served at the helm of the Penn lightweight program since 2002. In addition to guiding the Quakers to a bronze-medal finish at the 2005 IRA Regatta, he also represented the Red and Blue as a boatman for the U.S. Olympic rowing teams in 2004 (Athens) and 2008 (Beijing).

The search process for a new head coach is already underway.
