Philadelphia - University of Pennsylvania sophomore Ibrahim Jaaber was named Big 5 Player of the Week and Ivy League co-player of the week for the week ending Feb. 27. Jaaber helped the Quakers clinch the Ivy League title for the third time in the last four years by averaging 20.0 ppg and 6.0 rpg in two games lastweek.
Jaaber scored a career-high 26 points on 9-for-12 shooting in the crown-clinching win over Columbia and added a game-high 14 points in a 66-49 victory at Cornell. Jaaber also had eight steals, five assists and four blocks on the weekend. The Elizabeth, N.J. native has led the Quakers in scoring in three of their last four games. He became Penn’s single-season steals leader on Feb. 19 after snatching away 63 balls. With 71 steals in just 25 games, he is currently three steals away from the Ivy League single-season record. This is Jaaber’s second Ivy League Player of the Week honor and first Big 5 accolade.
The University of Pennsylvania(17-8, 10-1) faces off against Dartmouth on March 4 in the second to last home game of the season.
