PHILADELPHIA -- Freshman linebacker Connor Jangro had Dartmouth fans experiencing flashbacks to another #49 who played linebacker at Penn on Friday night, making seven tackles in a 37-24 Quakers win in Hanover.
His performance earned him an honor that the previous #49 -- 2015 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year Tyler Drake -- never obtained in his Penn career with a selection as Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Jangro is the first Ivy League Rookie of the Week from the defensive side of the ball since the final week of the 2014 season and is Penn's first defensive player to earn an Ivy League Rookie of the Week award since senior Donald Panciello earned the award in 2013.
Jangro had a season-high seven tackles on Friday night in front of a national television audience on NBC Sports Network, including a tackle for loss. Through three career games, Jangro has 11 tackles -- four solo -- and two tackles for loss.
Up next for Penn is its final non-conference game of 2016 against Central Connecticut State on October 8 at Franklin Field. Kickoff against the Blue Devils is set for 1 p.m. on the Ivy League Digital Network.
