Sacramento, Calif. Junior Courtney Jaworski qualified for the semifinals in the 800m run, whilefreshman Kyle Calvo missed the long jump finalsby .02 centimeters on Wednesday night at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Jaworski finished third in his heat in a time of 1:48.45, his fastest of the season. The top-three runners in each heat and the next four fastest times qualify for the semifinals. Jaworski’s time has the sixth fastest of the day.
Calvo finished 13th in the preliminaries with a jump of 7.36m (24'1.75"). The top-12 advance to the finals. Calvo was one of two rookies competing at the NCAA Championships in the long jump.
The 800m semifinals will be run at 6:15 p.m. (PST) on Thursday evening, where the top three in each heat and the next two fastest times will advance to the finals on Saturday.
