Jaworski and Wilson Honored at Makuu Awards Ceremony

PHILADELPHIA - Men's track standout Courtney Jaworski and women's basketball player Rachel Wilson were both honored at the Makuu Black Student Cultural Center Senior Awards Ceremony held on May 13 at Logan Hall.

Jaworski was given the Jackie Robinson Awardwhile Wilson was honored with the Althea Gibson Award.

Both awards, named for the two legendary African American athletes, are presented annually to two seniors who have demonstrated skills in excellence in the area of sports and physical fitness.

Jaworski has enjoyed another stellar season for the Quakers, as he won his third straight 800 meter championship at the 2006 Heptagonal Meet on May 7 at Franklin Field. He became just the third 3-time winner in the 72-year history of the event at Heps.

The Tacoma, Wash., native will compete at the NCAA Regionals in Greensboro, N.C., on May 28-29.

Wilson had her best season at Penn as a senior, averaging 4.1 points and 3.1 rebounds while starting 21 of 27 games played. She was third on the team with 84 total boards and shot over 40 percent from the field on the season.

The Washington, D.C., native was also named an Arthur Ashe First-Team Scholar Athlete and was an Academic All-Big 5 selection.
