SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Senior Courtney Jaworski and sophomore Kyle Calvo began competition at the NCAA Championships Wednesday, with Jaworski qualifying for the semifinals in the 800-meter run and Calvotaking part inthe long jump and decathlon.
Jaworski placed third in his heat to automatically qualify for the semifinals in the 800. His time of 1:49.35 was 11th-best overall out of 26 preliminary competitors. The 800-meter semifinals will take place on Thursday at 5:05 p.m. Pacific time.
Calvo ended his first day at Championships in 15th place in the decathlon and finished 20th in preliminaries for the long jump. Calvo earned 3,625 points through five events in the decathlon. He ran 11.26 in the 100-meter dash, leaped 6.65m in the long jump, threw the shot put 13.13m, cleared 1.77m in the high jump, and posted a 50.06 second performance in the 400-meter dash.
In the long jump competition, Calvo fouled on his first attempt before leaping 4.57m and7.21m.
Both Quakers, along with Stacy Kim of the women's track team, will continue competition Thursday. Live results and start lists can be found here.
