Philadelphia - Jennifer Fleischer was named Philadelphia Big 5 Co-Player of the Week for her dominating performances against Saint Joseph's and Villanova this past week. Fleischer shared the honor with La Salle's Davineia Payne and is the second Quaker to be selected for the weekly award this season.
Fleischer averaged a double-double in two Philadelphia Big 5 games this week, scoring a career-high 21 points on 10-of-15 shooting in Penn's 64-57 win over Saint Joseph's. Fleischer added a season-high 16 rebounds in the win. The junior center followed up this impressive performance with her third double-double of the season against Villanova, scoring 12 points and adding 10 boards.
For the week, Fleischer averaged 16.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per game. The New Hartford native shot 66.7 percent from the floor (14-for-21) during the week and added four blocks, all coming in the Quakers' win over the Hawks.
Penn boasts a 3-3 overall record and a 2-1 mark in the Big 5. The Quakers' win over Saint Joseph's was the first in program history and the Red and Blue's two Big 5 wins also marks a first for the Quakers. The Red and Blue prove they will not shy away from national powers as six 2004 NCAA Tournament invitees appear on the Quakers schedule. Having already competed against Colorado, Maryland and Villanova, Penn will also meet Temple, Marist and Ohio State on the hardwood.
