PHILADELPHIA Freshman Jeremy Maas was named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week for the period ending 3/24. This is the first selection for the rookie pitcher.
Maas was honored for his performance in Penn’s 6-3 win over Mount St. Mary’s on Friday. He started and pitched six innings allowing two earned runs on seven hits. He struck out six batters en route to his first collegiate win.
His game was highlighted by two innings where he struck out two hitters with runners in scoring position.
In both the first and third innings, Maas struck out Josh Vittek and Ryan Murray the fourth and fifth hitters for The Mount. He struck out both men swinging with two on to end the rallies.
Maas is now 1-1 with a 3.68 ERA over five appearances. His 16 strikeouts are second on the team.
Penn is back in action this weekend with a pair of Ivy League doubleheaders against Yale (Saturday at noon) and Brown (Sunday at noon).
