Joe Swenson Earns National Honors

PHILADELPHIA --Sophomore Joe Swenson came up huge for the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team in a 2-0 win over Cornell to open the Ivy League portion of the season, and his efforts were noticed by and with selections to their "National Team of the Week" which recognizes the 11 finest performances from around the country each week.

Swenson scored in each half against the Big Red, opening his collegiate account in the 30th minute before adding insurance for the Quakers en route to three points in the opening week of Ancient Eight play.

Swenon's selection to the "National Team of the Week" is the first for Penn since Stephen Baker was honored in October of 2013. He is the first Ivy Leaguer to be recognized by this season. His honor is the first for a Penn player since Nicky Yin was chosen following Penn's win at Harvard to clinch the 2013 Ivy League title.

Swenson and the Qukaers are back in action on October 10, taking on Columbia at 2 p.m. in New York City.
