PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League has announced its weekly award winners in men's lacrosse, and for the second time in three weeks the Ivy League Rookie of the Week is University of Pennsylvania freshman goaltender Reed Junkin.
Junkin's honor comes on the heels of his 15-save performance in Saturday's 11-7 win over then-No. 20 Penn State. Six of those stops came in the first half, as the Quakers built up a 7-1 lead, and he had two more in the third as the lead was extended to 9-2. In the fourth quarter, Penn State scored five times but Junkin still made seven saves in the period. For the game, Junkin's save percentage was 68.2, a season high.
Overall, Junkin has a .573 save percentage this season and a 10.67 goals-against average through three games.
Penn returns to action two times this week, starting Tuesday with Lafayette at 4 p.m. on Franklin Field. On Saturday, the Quakers are at No. 13 Villanova for another 4 p.m. faceoff.
