PHILADELPHIA--The men's track and field team hosted the Penn Invitational where junior Tim Kaijala ran a time of 1:50.30 in the 800m to earn an NCAA Regional mark and first place in the event. The team dealt with cold and snowy conditions, Saturday at Franklin Field.
Penn cleaned up in the sprints, taking first in the 100m, 200m and 400m. Sophomore Joey Brown ran a time of 10.75 (just shy of the 10.50 NCAA Regional time) to take first in the 100m. In the 200m, Andrew Anderson (22.36), Jason Ellis (22.39)and Kevin Benjamin (22.70)were the top three finishers. Sam Shepherd took first in the 400m with a time of 48.42.
Clayton Smith took second in the 5000m with a time of 14:59.35 while Sean McGinley (15:01.84) and Daniel Howard (15:04.26) rounded out the top-five in the event.
Penn took the top two spots in the 4x100m relay with the "A" team finishing at 41.78 and the "B" team crossing at 42.44. Penn's "C" team was the only one to finish the 4x400m relay and came in second with a tmie of 3:25.26. The 4x800m relay saw Penn's "A" team finish second at 7:59.51 with the "C" team in fourth (8:12.66) and "B" team in fifth (8:14.17).
Anthony Abitante took second in the pole vault after clearing 4.65m.

Penn is home again next weekend, hosting Princeton, Rutgers and Villanova in the Penn Quad at Franklin Field.
