Kaijala Places Eighth at NCAA East Regional

NCAA East Regional - Final Results

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Senior Tim Kaijala finished eighth in the 800 final Saturday afternoon at the NCAA East Regional, which was hosted this weekend by Florida State.

After clocking 1:48.95 on Friday to advance to the final, Kaijala ran the final in 1:49.44 Saturday afternoon. The winning time in the race was run by Florida's Carlos Phillips, who clocked 1:46.70 to beat Virginia Military's Felix Kitur by just .05 seconds. Both of those times broke the East Regional record, which was set in 2003 by Penn's Sam Burley.

Also Saturday, sophomore John Carelli finished 25th in the triple jump with a top distance of 14.67 meters (48 feet, 1.75 inches).

The only other Penn athlete to compete this weekend was senior Kyle Calvo in the long jump; he finished 17th overall Friday with a top distance of 7.17 meters (23 feet, 6.25 inches).
