PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League has announced its Players of the Week for women's soccer, and Penn freshman midfielder Kristin Kaiser has been named the Rookie of the Week.
The announcement was not a surprise, given Kaiser's monumental goal Saturday night against Princeton. Kaiser flicked in a header off a cross from Mara Fintzi just 2:35 into overtime, giving the Quakers a 1-0 win and clinching a share ofPenn's firstIvy League title since 2001. The following day, Penn became the first team into the 64-team NCAA College Cup field, clinching the Ivy's automatic bidwhen Yale defeated Brown.
Kaiser has scored three goals for the Quakers this season, tops among Penn's many freshman players and tied for fourth overall.
Columbia senior Gudrun Finnsdottir was the Ivy League Player of the Week, after scoring both Lion goals in a 2-1 win over Harvard.
Penn (12-3-1, 5-1-0 Ivy) will close out the regular season Saturday afternoon, traveling to Boston to take on Harvard. Kickoff at Ohiri Field is set for 1:30 p.m.
