PHILADELPHIA – Katy Junior capped a standout freshman season for the University of Pennsylvania women’s lacrosse team with another great defensive effort in No. 7 Penn’s NCAA Quarterfinal against Penn State. Her efforts were recognized by Inside Lacrosse with her selection as ILWomen.com National Rookie of the Week.
Despite an 8-4 loss to the Nittany Lions, Junior was active on defense for the Quakers. She caused three turnovers, picked up two ground balls and won a draw control while trying to keep her team in range of a comeback and a spot in the national semifinals.
The only freshman to appear in all 20 of Penn’s games this season, Junior finished her rookie season tied for third on the squad in caused turnovers with 18, and was fourth with 26 ground balls. Her three caused turnovers against the Nittany Lions tied her season high.
