Philadelphia – Seniors Jess Kaylor and Liz Lorelli both scored to lift the University of Pennsylvania field hockey team over Brown, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon for their seven-consecutive victory.
The Quakers (12-4, 5-1 Ivy League) struck early in the game, as Kaylor nailed a shot into the back of the cage just nine minutes into the game. The Red and Blue continued to play strong defense and controlled the tempo of the game with their strong passing through the midfield. Penn added to their lead in the second half when Lorelli tipped in a shot from junior Lea Salese. The Bears (5-9, 2-4 Ivy League) managed just one shot in the entire game, while the Quakers had eight.
Sophomore Elizabeth Schlossberg made one save in the game, while Kristen Hodavance stopped three Quaker shots. Penn’s shutout was the eighth on the season and sixth in a row. The Red and Blue defense has not allowed a goal since Oct. 2 and the Quakers went undefeated during the month of October.
Harvard, Penn and Princeton are in a three-way tie for first in the Ivy League. The Red and Blue will face Princeton on Nov. 5 in a crucial Ancient Eight match-up. Face off is at 7 p.m.
