Centerville, Mass. University of Pennsylvania freshman Kimberly Chin was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women’s Gymnastics Rookie of the Week for the week ending Feb. 27. The honor came after an outstanding performance by Chin at the 2005 Ivy Classic, held at Yale on Feb. 26.
The Canton, Mass. native finished in fourth place on the parallel bars with a score of 9.750 at the Classic, a new career-high. Chin also tied her career-high on the beam, scoring a 9.600 for her second fourth-place finish of the day. She was also the highest Penn finisher on the apparatus. Her previous career-high came on Feb. 12, when the Quakers defeated Ursinus, West Chester and Wilson in Hutchinson Gymnasium.
The Quakers, who boast a 9-0 dual meet record, finished in third place at the Ivy Classic with a score of 188.525. They are next in action on March 10 when they travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. to take on the Air Force Academy at 7 p.m. MST.
