Kinsey and Mauro Earn Academic All-Area Honors

PHILADELPHIA – Two members of the Penn softball team have been named to the 2006-07 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Softball team. Junior Annie Kinsey and senior Olivia Mauro are two of eleven student-athletes selected.The team is voted by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. To be eligible, the student-athletes must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Mauro finished the season with a 4.67 ERA, and a 5-4 record. She made 20 appearances for the Quakers, including nine starts and two saves. Mauro was a part of a pitching staff that improved their overall ERA from 4.71 last year to 3.53 this year. The staff as a whole walked 67 fewer batters, and allowed 16 fewer home runs, on the way to earning 23 wins, the most in Penn softball history.

Kinsey, who was unanimously voted Ivy League Player of the Year, had a breakout season for the Red and Blue in 2007, and also earned unanimous first-team All-Ivy honors and All-Region honors. Kinsey started all 42 games at second base, and finished the season hitting .450, with a .786 slugging percentage and 37 RBI. She broke multiple program records this year, including single-season records for hits (63), runs (53), doubles (15), and home runs (10). Kinsey led the Ivy League in batting average, hits, runs, doubles, on-base percentage, and total bases. She also led the Quakers in slugging percentage and home runs, and was second on the team in RBI.
