PHILADELPHIASophomore Mike Klein of the Penn men’s soccer team earned Ivy League Player of the Week and Philadelphia Soccer Seven Co-Player of the Week honors Monday.
A forward, Klein scored two goals, including the match-winner, and an assist against Saint Joseph’s, Sept. 15. His efforts in that game and in the Sept. 17 match vs. Duquesne helped the Quakers claim their third straight Penn Soccer Classic title. Klein now co-leads the team in points with seven in five games.
This is Klein’s first career Ivy Player of the Week honor, though he was honored as the Ivy Rookie of the Week twice last season. It is his second career PS7 weekly nod. Saint Joseph's goalkeeper Bryan Benedict was also named PS7 Co-Player of the Week.
Klein and the Quakers (4-1) are back in action Wednesday afternoon at La Salle. They will open the Ivy League season Saturday at home against Harvard at 7:30 p.m.
