PHILADELPHIA - Junior Kristen Lange was named 2009 Ivy League Player of the Year by the league office on Friday after going undefeated in conference play and finishing the season ranked second in the nation. In addition, Lange and classmate Sydney Scott were honored with first-team All-Ivy.
Lange had a very successful 2008-09 season. She went undefeated in league play and Lange's only losses during the season were to No. 1 Nour Bahgat of Trinity. In addition to being a two-time first-team All-America and first-team All-Ivy selection (2007-08), Lange was named 2007 Ivy League Rookie of the Year. This season Kristen went to the Collegiate Squash Association (CSA)Individual finals for the third time in her career, where she finished runner-up to Bahgat.
Scott has been named first-team All-Ivy the past two years and now extends it for a third. Scott was also named 2007 & 2008 second-team All-America. Scott played at the No. 2 spot of the ladder for Penn during the season, posting an 8-3 overall record, including 3-0 at the Howe Cup where Penn finished fourth in the nation. Prior to the CSA Individuals, Scott was ranked eighth in the nation, but was unable to participate in the tournament due to injury. In addition to excellance on the court, Scotthas received accolades for her classroom performace, being honored with2009 CSA Scholar Athlete and 2008 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area.
