PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania men’s lightweight rowing team heads to New Brunswick, N.J., this Saturday to compete in the Rutgers Fall Classic. This will be the last race for the Quakers until the spring season.

The lightweights will send their freshmen to compete in the second annual Rutgers Fall Classic in the Frosh/Novice 8 race. They are scheduled to hit the water at 12:20 p.m.

In the inaugural edition of this regatta, Penn’s first boat in the lightweight race finished fourth overall with a time of 14:10 and its second boat came in at 14:41. Combined, the Quakers’ time of 28:51 was third behind Navy (27:48) and Delaware (28:38) in the team standings.

Last Saturday, Penn’s freshmen boats participated in the Head of the Schuylkill regatta. In cold conditions, the novice eight came in 14 out of 40 boats with a time of 14:18.50 and the novice four placed 12th, clocking in at 18:19.87 in its respective race. Then on Sunday at the Princeton Chase, Penn’s top boat in the varsity eight placed ninth in the 27 boat field with a time of 13:46.26. The other three boats for the Quakers finished 21st, 22nd and 27th respectively.
