Adelphi 1, Penn 0 Box Score
PRINCETON – No. 25 Penn and Adelphi appeared destined for extra time on Friday night, but Mauricio Mora had other things on his mind. The junior defender curled home a long-range ball from 30-yards out with 39.1 seconds left to give Adelphi a 1-0 win.
In an evenly-matched affair, Mora’s goal off an Adam Weinzimer pass was the difference. The Panthers had a 15-14 shot advantage and were up six to four on attempts reaching goal.
The Quakers had chances late in the match to give themselves the lead, including promising attempts from Loukas Tasigianis (two shots) and Stephen Baker (four shots). Aaron Ross had three shots – including two on goal – but the Red and Blue could not solve Thorne Holder. In the end, it was Penn’s inability to convert their prime opportunities that did the Quakers in. Penn was adept for 89 minutes at mixing things up, with Zach Barnett and Jonny Dolezal joining the attack and causing Adelphi to move around its matchups.
Ben Berg finished with five saves for Penn in the loss. The Quakers are now 5-2-0 and are back in action Sunday at noon against Richmond.
