PHILADELPHIA - Senior Laura DiPaolo has been named ECAC Specialist of the Week following two solid routines on the vault and uneven bars. This marks the fifth weekly award that gymnastics has earned in the first four weeks of the season and the second consecutive week that Penn has earned the specialist of the week. Dana Bonincontri took home this same honor last week.
On the vault, DiPaolo scored a season-best 9.8, taking first in the event, and just missing her career best by five-hundredths of a point. Her vault also tied for the third-highest score on this event in Penn's history. DiPaolo has now scored a 9.8 on vault at least once in each of the past three seasons. She is now averaging 9.719 on vault through four competitions, the sixth-highest mark in the ECAC.
In the uneven bars competition, DiPaolo scored a 9.6, which was just five-hundredths off her season high that she set two weekends ago. Her 9.6 included a score of 9.7 from one of the two judges. She is currently averaging 9.575 through her first four bar routines, which ranks her 11th in the ECAC. Her score was good enough for fourth place overall on bars in the meet at Cornell.
Both of DiPaolo's scores helped Penn clear the 48 point mark on both the vault and bars this past weekend. The Quakers will finally get a chance to compete in their home gym this week after being on the road for each of the last two weekends. Their next meet will be this Friday night at 7 p.m. inside Hutchinson Gymnasium.
