Lehman Returns to Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA--The University of Pennsylvania’s Head Coach of Women’s Lacrosse, Karin Brower, announced the hiring of Melissa Lehman C’08 as an assistant coach starting in the 2009-10 academic year. An All-America midfielder as a player at Penn, Lehman captained the Quakers’ 2008 team that advanced to the NCAA national final.

“We are very excited to get Melissa back,” said Brower. “She was one of our best players and obviously knows our system in addition having a great understanding of the game. The players really respect her knowledge and they know the work ethic she had as a player.”

After graduating from Penn in 2008, Lehman served as an assistant coach at Brown. The Bears went 7-8 in 2009 and logged wins over Harvard, Columbia and Yale in the Ivies in addition to a nail-biting double-overtime win against Connecticut.

At Penn, she will head up the Quakers’ attack. While playing in the Red and Blue, Lehman knew something about attack; she scored 102 points in her career and is one of just 15 Quakers to reach the century mark.

Second-year assistant coach Liz Kittleman will take over for Gloria Lozano as the team’s top assistant and defensive coordinator. Kittleman served two seasons as a volunteer coach before coming on as a full-time assistant prior to the 2009 season. Last season, she worked on attack and with the goalkeepers.
