PRINCETON, N.J. - The Penn lightweight rowing varsity 8 took second place in the Wood-Hammond Cup Saturday, falling to Princeton but beating Georgetown.
The Tigers crossed the line first in 6:09.7, ahead of Penn's 6:15.2 and Georgetown's 6:23.5.
In the second varsity 8, the Quakers finished fourth in 6:46.5, behind two Princeton boats (6:20.6 and 6:22.1)and Georgetown (6:36.3). The novice 8 crew saw a similar fate, coming in third in 6:37.6, behind Princeton (6:16.4) and Georgetown (6:29.6).
All three races took place in a steady rain with a variable headwind.
The lightweights return to action on May 14, competing against Navy for the Callow Cup on the Schuylkill River.
