Lightweight Crew Finishes Third in Matthew-Leonard Cup

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Penn lightweight rowing team finished third Saturday in the varsity 8 at the Matthew-Leonard Cup on Lake Cayuga.

In the varsity 8, Penn fell behind to finish third in 6:41.9, behind Harvard (6:29.7) and Cornell (6:38.8). In the second varsity 8, the race order was the same, with Harvard (6:36.3) in first, Cornell (6:40.1) second, and Penn (7:12.5).

The Quakers didn't fare much better in the novice 8,finishing in 7:09.9 behind Cornell (6:41.0) and Harvard (6:53.6).

Race conditions were harsh, with very cold conditions and a strong headwind that increased as the day wore on.

Penn continues its schedule April 15 at Mercer Lake, N.J. against Columbia and Yale in the Dodge Cup.
