BOSTON - The University of Pennsylvania lightweight rowing team turned in a pair of top-15 finishes at Sunday's Head of the Charles regatta.
The Lightweight 8+ came in seventh with a time of 15:45.324, while the Lightweight Youth 4+ took 14th in a time of 19:34.780. Both times were within five percent of the winner, ensuring qualification for next year's Head of the Charles.
"The weather was definitely a factor in Boston," said Head Coach Mike Irwin."There was a strong head current and head wind on Sunday but the varsity did a good job holding speed in slow conditions. We feel we have room to improve as we prepare for the Princeton Chase. We need to keep building in order to keep pace with the programs out front."
The lightweight team will compete in two events this weekend, first when they take part in the Head of the Schuylkill regatta on Saturday and then at the Princeton Chase on Sunday.
