BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Pennsylvania lightweight rowing team had four boats in action at the 52nd Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday afternoon and recorded a fifth place finish in the men’s lightweight 8 to highlight their participation in the historic event.
The Quakers ‘A’ boat in the 8+ raced to a 16:25.043 finish, crossing the line just under 17 seconds behind Western Ontario’s first place mark of 15:41.440. The Red and Blue also had a ‘B’ boat in action in the men’s lightweight 8+ that came in 9th in a time of 16:25.043. The race kicked off at 2:20 p.m. following a full day of action on the Charles River.
Earlier in the afternoon, Penn also competed in the lightweight 4+ and raced to a back-to-back finish in the event, placing 10th and 11th respectively by the ‘A’ and ‘B’ boats. The Quaker ‘A’ team finished in 19:08.616 while their teammates finished next in line in 19:40.644 in the race which began at 1:48 p.m.
Sunday’s HOCR marked the second of four fall events for the men’s lightweights: the Quakers will race again next weekend at the Head of the Schuylkill on Saturday, Oct. 29th and at the Princeton Chase on Sunday, Oct. 30th.
